Tiago Silverio
Doctoral Candidate 8
Nokia, Germany
Short Bio: Tiago Silverio is a physics engineer with extensive experience in diverse research areas, including free-space optics, optical sensing and characterisation for advanced organic-inorganic materials, cryptography, and quantum key distribution. In addition to his research background, he has three years of industry experience in quantum sensing and communication, GNSS simulations, and scientific dissemination projects. Before joining the project, Tiago worked as a developer for network planning tools at Infinera, addressing the optimisation and challenges of optical networks
Research Topic: Network modelling for access and metro aggregation networks
Project Summary: Developing physical-layer–aware models for accurate Quality of Transmission (QoT) estimation in DSCM optical systems targeting metro and metro-access segments. Combining simulation and experimental validation to model nonlinear interference and its impact on system performance. Enabling optimized design and planning of high-speed optical networks that account for complex nonlinear transmission effects.
