Esteban Paz Faunes
Doctoral Candidate 12
Infinera Germany (Nokia Germany)
Short Bio: Esteban is a PhD student in Strategic Architecture Engineering within the NESTOR project. He holds a BSc in Telecommunications Engineering and an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad de Concepción, Chile. His academic work has focused on optical communications, particularly the impact of Raman Scattering in multiband systems and non-linear mitigation techniques.
Esteban also brings over two years of industry experience as a FTTH Engineer at ENTEL, where he specialised in mobile sites maintenance and deployment supervision. Fluent in English and Spanish and currently learning German, Esteban has developed strong technical skills in optical communications simulation, digital signal processing, and mobile communication technologies (3G, LTE, 5G).
Research Project: Low-complexity DSP Techniques for Metro-Access Networks
Project Summary: (i) Develop low-complexity DSP for BiDi single-wavelength single-fiber P2MP architectures using DSCM. (ii) Design a GSNR-based modeling framework for filter-less P2MP systems and use it for power control optimization studies, focusing on various applications such as QoT, network provisioning and techno-economic analysis. (iii) Expand and improve numerical tools for accurately assessing physical channel impairments, mainly non-linear effects, using DSCM, and use this to create benchmarks for validation of modeling studies.
