Yousuf Moiz Ali
Doctoral Candidate 5
Aston University
Short Bio: Yousuf completed his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Habib University in Karachi, Pakistan. After graduating, he moved to Munich, Germany, to undertake a master's program in Communications Engineering. During his studies in Munich, Yousuf developed a strong interest in optical networks and machine learning, which became the focus of his master's thesis. In his thesis, he compared different protection schemes for optical networks, focusing on cost efficiency. His primary research areas include optical networks and the application of machine learning to enhance their efficiency.
Research Topic: Cross-layer data-driven techniques for next generation access / metro networks
Project Summary: Developing DSP and coded-modulation techniques for low- cost optical transceivers. Enhancing transmission performance for the short-haul network segment. Devising strategies to reduce computational complexity and latency of the introduced solutions to simplify the architecture and to reduce the energy consumption.
