Sanwal Zeb
Doctoral Candidate 4
Politecnico Di Torino
Short Bio: Sanwal earned his Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) in 2018, with a thesis on “Energy Minimization by Optimal Data Centre Placement in Elastic Optical Networks.” Over the past five years, he has gained extensive experience in network planning, design, and research. At China Mobile Pakistan (CMPaK), a leading telecom operator, he worked as a Senior Officer Enterprise Solutions, overseeing WDM network planning and design. He later joined the CONNECT Centre Dublin, where he explored slicing, virtualization and monitoring of converged fixed/mobile and access/metro networks. Also, he worked on vDBA Dynamic Resource Scheduling and Allocation in PONs, Energy Efficiency in WDM Networks & software Defined Optical Networks
Research Topic: Digital twin of physical layer for short-reach scenarios in metro/access/DCI networks
Project Summary: Develop a digital twin of physical layer to enable intelligent operation of converged metro-access networks. It integrates multi-carrier coherent transceiver modeling, QoT estimation, and AI/LLM-driven control to support resource allocation, failure detection and recovery. Evaluation of P2P and P2MP coherent architectures, identifying scalable and cost-efficient strategies for next-generation 6G X-haul.
